Our team of more than 20 specialists in mechanics, bodywork, painting, wiring, upholstery, and spare parts, can carry out a complete “Premium Restoration”, in a period of 10 to 15 months with a total of 1,500 to 3,000 hours of work in our own 10.000m2 facilities, under our full supervision and a total commitment to quality assurance in each process.
The process starts with a meticulous disassembling of the whole car, inspecting all of its components, down to the bare body shell and/or chassis.
The bodywork is completely sandblasted and all the old paint is removed. When the bodywork is returned to bare metal, all the panels are checked for deformations or damage, and repaired or replaced where necessary, by our skilled craftsmen, using artisan techniques. If required, the bodywork is checked for correct geometry and straightened to its original condition. After the panel work is done, the underbelly and wheel arches of the bodywork are coated with an anti-oxidation agent to ensure a perfect, forever-lasting protection.
On request, it is possible to reenforce the structure of either the bodywork or the monocoque of the vehicle against torsion to ensure an improved road holding capability.
The chassis is one of the most delicate elements of the vehicle since it works as a structure and support for all the other components that make up a vehicle. Therefore, the process of determining whether to repair or replace a chassis is of utmost importance.
The chassis of the vehicle undergoes the same extensive and meticulous treatment as the bodywork. It is however possible to request auxiliary treatments such as acid bathing to remove excessive oxidation inside of chassis tubes and closed compartments. It is also possible to galvanize or powder-coat the entire chassis to prevent the formation of rust or other oxidation.
In case that the chassis has serious deformations, breaks or cracks, it is possible and advisable to change the entire chassis with an original replacement.
The painting process begins by removing the residues of the old paint and oxides, as well as thoroughly degreasing the bodywork, to be able to continue with the sanding, to achieve an optimal adhesion of the product. Sanding is the most tedious part of the process, as the bodywork must be perfectly level and smooth against uneven areas.
Subsequently, the primer is applied so that the individual layers adhere, ensuring a high quality of paint for a longer time than usual. This will also smooth out any unevenness and provide a high-quality finish to your paint.
For the vehicle paint, a color code is used to suit the customer, original or personalized, if it is original, it is searched in our database and the mixture is created to obtain the exact color.
The enamel is then applied as a layer that provides color and shine. It can also be used in multiple layers for a totally custom color.
Finally, lacquer is applied to protect the entire finish from external agents and provide the last desired level of shine.
Checking all its components during disassembly. Once disassembled, the internal components are measured to diagnose the condition of the engine. This components are rectified, rebuilt or replaced if necessary. The assembly is carried out, and the rectified elements are measured again. The crankshaft and flywheel assembly, as well as the connecting rod and piston assemblies are balanced. The piston rings are gauged to function properly. The assembly proceeds from the installation of the crankshaft to the positioning of the pistons, leaving the lower part of the engine done. The process is finished with the valve assembly in the cylinder head, after which the compression ratio of the engine is checked. Once assembled, the complete engine is mounted to a test bench, where ignition and fuel system are adjusted to the optimal performance.
All of the drivetrain components get disassembled from the vehicle. The transmission gets taken apart, and all the different components get an extensive ultrasonic cleaning, after which, they are meticulously evaluated on their condition. If the transmission contains synchronizer rings, they are replaced with original replacements. All the internal bearings get replaced, and new gears can be installed if worn out or damaged. After the rebuild, the transmission is reassembled and filled with the highest quality transmission fluid. It is possible to upgrade the original gearbox with another gearbox that contains different gear ratios or an extra gear, to enhance the driving comfort of the vehicle. The shifting mechanism gets readjusted to guarantee a smooth shifting between gears.
The same process is applied to masterly restore the differential to its original condition. In case the vehicle is equipped with a solid rear axle, the internal driveshafts get balanced and the bearings replaced.
The entire exhaust system ranging from the exhaust manifolds in the engine bay, to the exhaust dampeners under the back of the vehicle, gets restored to its original pristine condition. When necessary, heavily degraded components will be substituted with an original replacement. If the customer wishes, it is possible to improve the exhaust system material to stainless steel or to increase the exhaust diameter increase flow and change the exhaust sound characteristics.
The front and rear suspension is disassembled, cleaned and sandblasted. After this process, the different parts get either painted or galvanized to ensure perfect rust-proofing of the different components that make up the suspension. To ensure perfect handling of the vehicle, new bearings, trackrods, bushings, and silent blocks, are installed. New shock absorbers are installed that are to the original specification of the manufacturer, but it is possible to upgrade the original specification shock absorbers to “Koni Classic” or "Spax".
The complete braking system gets disassembled from the vehicle, and all of its components are evaluated and fully rebuilt or replaced with original parts. All the seals and pistons get replaced or refurbished, and all the parts are ultrasonically cleaned, after which they are galvanized or painted to ensure a premium finish and rust protection. The brake lines are replaced with copper or stainless steel reproductions. The master cylinder can be adapted to fit a brake booster and the drum brakes can be upgraded to a disc brake system on request.
Wheels & Tires
The official Borrani restoration service includes repair, cleaning, re-polishing of the rim, renewal of the identification stampings, new spokes and re-chroming of the hub.
Painted wheels will also be restored to their original specifications, using the correct paint and color shades.
All restored wheels will obtain a progressive factory code that includes the restoration date, and can obtain a Certificate of Authenticity on simple demand.

The tires that are mounted on the newly restored wheels are either made to the original manufacturers specification or upgraded on request.
The steering system of any vehicle ensures the predictability of a vehicle when making a turn. It is therefore important to restore or adapt the original steering system is such a way that it performs as originally specified or better.
The steering system that is installed in the vehicle, for example a steering gearbox or rack and pinion, gets disassembled and extensively cleaned. After this, the parts get regreased and the tolerances are set to the manufacturers specifications.
If the vehicle is equipped with hydraulic power-steering, the hydraulic pump gets a full rebuild and is mounted back in the vehicle, together with new hydraulic lines that connect the pump to the hydraulic steering module.
On request, it is possible to modify the steering system to upgrade from the gearbox-type steering system to rack and pinion and install an electric power-steering module to improve steering performance at low speeds and enhance the overall comfort of the vehicle.
The existing wiring loom gets taken out of the vehicle. If possible, the wiring is restored to its original condition and repaired where necessary. If the existing wiring has too much damage, a new wiring loom will be manufactured by our skilled craftsmen to the original specification and periodically correct materials. On request, it is possible to upgrade the wiring loom to include circuits for auxiliary lights, switches, electric fuel pumps, etc.
Electric motors, like starter motors, wiper motors and electric window motors, are evaluated on their condition, and repaired or replaced if necessary.
Energy production components like the dynamo or alternator, are restored or replaced, and consumables like carbon brushes in the dynamo are renewed to ensure its longevity.
It is possible to upgrade the electrical system in the vehicle from 6 volts to 12 volts and replace the original dynamo with a modern, high efficiency alternator.
The original upholstery gets removed from the vehicle when starting the restoration process. This includes parts like the seats, the door carts roof lining and floor mats.
All the textile or leather is removed from the seats after which the underlaying structure is checked and repaired where necessary. Once the structure is in perfect condition, the measurements are taken to start with the work on the new upholstery. After choosing the components such as the foam, the seam structure, the finishing material and colour, the new seat pattern is moulded.
Once the correct moulding has been obtained, the upholstery is carried out respecting the aspects of the original seats , door carts, roof lining, floormats, etc. All the forementioned details can be adjusted to the customer’s request. This includes sewing technique, type of yarn, and leather finish.
If the original upholstery is still in good condition, possible cracks, cuts, burns and discolorations can be masterly repaired so that the upholstery is returned to its original condition.
Interior Wood Trim
All the wood panels and structures are removed from the vehicle and checked for their condition. If necessary, the lacquer and veneer is removed from the panels and re-applied to bring back the original glory of the part.
New panels are manufactured and installed if the original parts have deteriorated too far to be repaired. After the necessary repairs are done, the parts are polished to a perfect shine and put back in the vehicle.
On request, it is possible to manufacture and install bespoke interior components made with exotic wood types.
Soft Tops & body seals
If the vehicle is equipped with a soft top, the textile or leather will be removed from the soft top framing and the frame will me meticulously restored to ensure a smooth operation of the opening and closing mechanism. The textile or leather cover, including the rear window material, is repaired and restored if possible or otherwise remanufactured by our craftsmen at Auto Storica. It is possible to personalise the design or material of the soft top on request.
The different seals that close off the cabin from the elements are replaced and modified on request.
